I’m writing this on Friday. This isn’t the newsletter I expected to send out this week but recent events have caused a change of plans.
If you’ve just joined the MurkMail circle, welcome! We’re happy to have you here!
In the space of six hours today:
I got a message from Panny over at Leyline Press saying that MurkMail had received an ENNIE award nomination for best online content.
Soon after, Goblin Archives of Liminal Horror pointed out that The Mall Remastered (which I had done a map for) had been nominated for best short adventure (congrats Goblin Archives).
THEN I noticed that my adventure, Nevermore (for Grimwild), had also been nominated for best short adventure.
A few hours later, MurkMail crossed 2000 subscribers.
uuuhhhhhhhh wat? Editor Lyndsay has assured me I’m not in a coma and this really is happening.
So I guess I’m an ENNIE nominated adventure writer, and myself and Lyndsay are ENNIE nominated ttrpg bloggers. This is weird.
So today we’re talking thank-yous and the future.
Thank you
This is the place to start. A big thank you.
Our readers have made this happen. Our supporters. Anyone who’s shared MurkMail. Folks who recommend us in their own work. People who tell others about our projects, like Nevermore.
We’re grateful for the nominations and for being placed among such talented creators.
Now seems like a good time to announce the thank you gift I’ve been working on for the 2k subscribers mark.
You might remember that when we passed 1k, we gave away a set of random tables?
Well, for 2k (+ENNIE x2), they’re getting an upgrade.
I’ve been working on a set of over 140 d66 spark tables for dark fantasy, a huge expansion and rework over the previous set. Plus each spread has a little set of d6 utility tables for quick answers to common questions.
You can see from the example above that it’s a much more comprehensive toolkit that’s going to cover a broader range of topics.
Hopefully we’ll have it in your hands soon. We’re going to look at getting a POD option available too.
The Lacuna of Memory
Our game jam, 6M-2025, wrapped up this week. This community-built megadungeon for Mork Borg, the Lacuna of Memory, is now in my hands to piece together plus do the layout and final cartography for. We’ve got some editing and such to do as well. Here’s a peek at some early draft spreads:
Our contributors have written a lot, which makes me so happy, but it means I’m not sure how long the Lacuna will take to finish. I’m pressing ahead with speed though! When it’s done, we’ll be releasing it for free digitally (also looking into POD options).
More to come
We have more in the works. I’ve got an adventure I’ve been stewing on for a while now. A big one. Keep your eyes peeled. Plus some other big developments are in the pipeline.
Catch you next week Murklings.
Congratulations on your nominations and getting over 2k subscribers.
Congrats on your nominations! So well deserved.
