A weird week
My adventure, Inkvein, successfully funded!
On the eve of Inkvein’s crowdfunding launch I was so nervous I started working on a small vanilla-y sandbox for Cairn by hand to keep my brain busy:
We launched and in the next 24 hours:
Our project funded (in 19 hours!) with a ton of you coming in to support us within the first hour alone.
We managed to reach the first stretch goal, a gnarly smugglers’ town.
Over 350 people have backed the project. That’s crazy.
If you have backed Inkvein, thank you. Thank you so much. If you have shared Inkvein elsewhere, take more thanks. The Murk community shouting out Inkvein means the world to me and genuinely helps. Keep sharing!
This book is the culmination of over 1500 hours of work (and that’s just my hours). The response has put to rest any doubt about whether it was too much of a gamble to make this monster of a book.
Oh, and since I wrote the draft of this post we’ve passed 2 more stretch goals and have hit 500 backers! We were also BackerKit’s featured project!
If you haven’t backed yet, here’s some stuff that might convince you.
Go get the free Quickstart. Read it. If you’ve skimmed it, read it again. I promise you it’s worth the 20 minutes so you can get a feel for how good the full book is going to be. It’s a mere slice of what’s to come, but get yourself a proper taste.
Look at the stretch goals. You might be thinking “I’ll wait until it’s available later.” There’s a bunch of cool stuff that only exists if we reach the stretch goals. Each stretch goal is around 40 physical backers apart: everyone who backs is a big help in reaching more goodies!
If you don’t run MÖRK BORG, remember that the OSR is all about compatibility. You can run Inkvein with a system like Cairn or more traditional retro-clones too. Some folks are planning to run it with Shadowdark! If you want to see how to convert from MÖRK BORG to Cairn check out my conversion guide, it was featured in the Cairn newsletter so it’s designer approved!
The limited edition is LIMITED. Copies of the limited edition are going to be rare after the project is delivered. We won’t be overprinting them more than we have to, they will be hard to get hold of outside of BackerKit. And by the Ink, people WANT this limited edition. The majority of backers have ordered it!
You know you want this beef-cake of a clothbound silver-foiled book in your collection.
That’s it for this week Murklings. Next week should be normal programming, I’ll be talking about using negative space in adventure design (I think).

Congrats MurkDice!!!! Was excited to back this; I think I was #3:). Just a quick note about backing even if you don’t play Mork. I prefer Cairn over Mork and backing this specifically to play in my Cairn campaign. So easy to convert, and you already did the work with your conversion piece you mentioned. Thank you!!! This is going to be a great project, and I hope the rest of you OSR fans who haven’t backed this yet take the chance and get some ink on your hands!!! Congratulations again!!!
